The Chips in Man and The Man in Chips : An AI Poem

Image
I watched an introductory lecture on Artificial Intelligence. I was awestruck. These words came to my mind and in 10 minutes, I could compose a poem on what I felt. Hope you enjoy it. The Chips in Man and The Man in Chips We build systems that think on their own, No longer do they depend on us to make decisions for them, Us humans, who have programmed them so well, That we now depend on them all day, as if we are on an inactivity spell. The machines, they think, but not like us, For we, we wander about aimlessly in a dense forest of irrelevant thoughts, But they, they are focused on the problem to be solved, Working in binary and no emotions to get involved. Intelligent they are, but with the 'Artificial' tag, A tag that research labs across the world try to erase, To not just have computers mimic the human mind, But to make them equal to any member of mankind. I wonder at how much progress we have made, From Da Vinci's medieval knight robot designs to building an actual hu...

Situation in the World 2020 : Grief about our selfish attitude as next gen

Image
We are in the middle of a global havoc. With the rise of Corona Virus again in Beijing, possibilities of a second layer of the life-taking virus are being considered. Many countries are still just at the peak of first layer, and this is the news they have to prepare themselves for. Unemployment, food shortage and serious illnesses are seen all around. No one is able to understand what is going to stop this. Will we all have to suffer till the vaccine arrives? All because of one nation - the one who started it all, say country A. Now that enmity towards country A is increasing around the world and country A's companies are suffering, people are getting unemployed, country A's population is turning against their own Government. On this background, what does country A do? country A decides to attack India, change the attention of the entire world and it's own citizens from their wicked and insensitive actions, to the war with India. How can a country be so cruel? In...

The One Quality To Imbibe in Young Girls Today

Image
LEADERSHIP Women Influencers The most important quality we should be raising young girls today with, is Leadership.  Women are extremely capable of becoming great leaders and that is because few characteristics of leaders come to us naturally. Women have a natural tendency to be honest and sincere about work. Women have a certain amount of sensitivity in addition to expertise in their field, which makes a woman's decision wiser and more humane as compared to men. Women inherently care about their clients, due to which their client-relationship becomes greater than just a professional relationship. This allows quality of work to improve for the client. Women are naturally good at multi-tasking, because in most cases, they are all-rounders, being a boss, a leader, a wife, a daughter and a mother at the same time. This multi-tasking helps them to manage many tasks at workplace too. Women can inspire other people to complete not just their assigned tasks but to achieve the...

Success by Berton Braley - One of My Biggest Inspirations

This is a poem I had once read on an online platform, and I am so glad I bumped into that site. Without this poem, I couldn't have possibly stayed motivated. It is very difficult to continue when you see no results, but hanging onto it is the key. Many times we are just at the door of success but we don't realise it. This poem kept me going in the toughest times. I put it in huge letters on my wall. I am extremely thankful to Berton Braley for bringing this poem in my life. “ Success" If you want a thing bad enough To go out and fight for it, Work day and night for it, Give up your time and your peace and your sleep for it If only desire of it Makes you quite mad enough Never to tire of it, Makes you hold all other things tawdry and cheap for it If life seems all empty and useless without it And all that you scheme and you dream is about it, If gladly you'll sweat for it, Fret for it, Plan for it, Lose all your terror of God or man for it, If you'll simpl...

My Only Hope - A poem from the school days

Image
Hey guys!! Here I am with another poem from a long time back! My Only Hope is a poem that I had written in school in seventh grade. As far as I remember I had written it after a sad day at school where my teacher had accused me of doing something that I had not done. After a few days, the matter got resolved and I came out clean, with this poem as an output of it. Now that I think about it, the incident was very silly, and I shouldn't have even worried so much, but I was a kid at that time having no better issues to worry about than this. I really think such times which we perceive as hard bring out our creativity a lot. My Only Hope Today I am lost somewhere They think I am wrong everywhere I see only you, my last hope I am stuck in life's code. I am innocent, He knows I am not taking any fake vows To prove this, I need to struggle Honesty will lead me out of this trouble I believe you trust the truth; You have faith in me without any doubt You are my world, ...

The Journey to IIT - Part 2

Hello there! So in the previous part, you heard about how I landed into MPrakash Academy. My first year at MPA was enjoyable but equally difficult. We had science once a week for 2 hours, 7 pm - 9 pm batch and Maths twice a week. I had never heard of what a proof is before I came here. The whole concept of proving something in mathematics sounded very new to me. I had to struggle to grasp it, but eventually, I did. I made it to class 9th at MPA after hard efforts and many disappointments in examinations. But I was happy that I got the chance to continue with them. Class IX at MPA was one of my life-changers because I met one of the most amazing teachers in the world, Raj Sir. He is extremely passionate about teaching and is excellent at communicating with teenagers. He gave me confidence, which I lacked a lot. Once after an exam as he saw he said, "Paper soda, to kashi ashes?" which means "I don't want to know how the paper was, tell me about how you are". I s...

The Journey to IIT - Part 1

Image
I have always wanted to become a lot of things. I wanted to become a Bharatnatyam dancer when I was 6 years old. And I was famous for my dance at that time! I used to perform solos and performances with college students, always getting a 'Once more!'. (And I m not boasting :P, just wanted to narrate the story of my changing goals) After that, I became interested in Western and Bollywood dance. So I left Bharatnatyam after 3 years of practice.  Then I wanted to become a doctor till seventh grade. I also had my own first aid kit which I treated as my doctor's bag. I had painted it white and my name in red, "Dr Vedika Kulkarni".  My mother was always very particular about my studies and grades.   It all started with the seventh standard scholarship of Maharashtra Gov. I had secured it in the fourth standard. Still, the seventh-grade scholarship caused the domino effect, taking me to IIT.  After seventh, my mom forcefully made me appear for MP...

A POEM FROM THE IIT-PREP DAYS

This poem expresses what my mind was going through during IIT preparation. I started to enjoy the concepts when I began to understand them. But before that, I was very shaky and I wanted to give up. I wasn't getting any results though I was working hard. I could see my friends and classmates scoring very well. I was struggling. I had chosen to prepare for IIT, the thunder. This is a poem that speaks about the times when you feel like nothing is working. You want to give up so badly. But you got to hold on, cause in the end, you are going to be happy and proud about yourself. All efforts are worth the goal you have decided for yourself. Just keep walking and you'll reach the end where the sun is shining, and there is no regret.                                                                 THE THUNDER I chose the thunder, I ...

The Tech Field and Us

Image
I am sure many of you, my girlfriends, have grown up with Barbie dolls. Just like me! I was very fond of Barbies. I also had a massive collection of kitchen sets, makeup kits and stuffed animals. On the other hand, my brothers were busy building towers out of blocks, messing with robot building kits, solving jigsaw puzzles or racing cars on HotWheels tracks. I enjoyed RomCom, thrillers and drama much more than sci-fi movies, and I still do. While I love my childhood and teenage, I feel that the cultivation of a few different, additional habits to it would have caused wonders. This post is, as the title says, about increasing the percentage of women in tech. Stick around as I discuss how we need to bring about a few changes in the upbringing of girls. It is an attempt towards awakening girls, their parents and schools to start changing the way girls have been brought up traditionally.                        ...
